Belgian WWI Broqueville Backpack 2e Régiment d'Artillerie Lourde

SOLD
€350.00

Original Belgian WWI Broqueville backpack. On the reverse, the inscription “C. Schaetzen, 2 RAL, 3/III” is written. Charles A. L. M. Schaetzen, born in Sint-Huibrechts-Hern (today part of Bilzen–Hoeselt), served in the 2e Régiment d’Artillerie Lourde during WWI. He is listed in the Guldenboek der Vuurkaart, 1935–36 edition, on page 628.

The backpack shows several unique modifications made by the soldier himself. Unfortunately, the two smaller carrying straps and the long straps are missing. There are also several small holes, one larger one and various stains. All of the leather straps remain present but have dried somewhat over time.

Despite this, the backpack remains a unique and rare piece with fascinating history.
